The Game Plan

Could the final really have been staged anywhere else? MetLife’s 8 matches include the one that matters most. After all, in addition to being America’s (and to some, the world’s) defining city, it’s where soccer has thrived since Scottish mill workers brought the beautiful game to nearby Kearny NJ in the 1870s. .

With a world-leading 800 languages spoken within its borders, it isn't just geographic convenience placing the ultimate match 9 miles from Times Square. From Newark's Ironbound, district where Portuguese flags fly year-round, to Queens' neighborhoods where Bangladeshi, Colombian, and Korean communities maintain their soccer traditions, the NY/NJ region is capable of making any fan base feel like they’re at home. And as America’s most popular tourist destination, you can expect a massive showing for every match, turning the intensity up to 11 no matter who’s on the pitch.

SEATING GUIDE

LOWER BOWL

You're so close that front-row seats sit just 46 feet from the sideline, one of the tightest configurations at an NFL stadium. The temporary natural grass pitch will bring play even closer than usual NFL action. Corner sections get removed for FIFA's wider field, creating perfect sightlines for wing play and those crucial near-post corners.

MEZZANINE LEVEL (Sections 201-244)

End zone Mezzanine B sections are a sleeper pick: many are almost entirely covered by the upper deck above, providing weather protection at non-club prices. These elevated positions deliver broadcast-quality angles for reading formations and tracking off-ball runs that you'll miss from field level.

UPPER DECK

MetLife's steep rake will have you feeling closer than some other stadiums' Club levels, while four massive corner video boards (30x116 feet each) ensure you won't miss a single replay. The first handful of rows (typically 1-4) sit below the concourse entryway, eliminating traffic in your sightline and creating a private box vibe, and for weather protection look for seats in sections 324-340 covered by the Solar ring.

AROUND THE STADIUM

Pregame Plan: Arrive 5 hours early if you want to witness 28,000 parking spaces transform into an all-out block party. Even some of the city’s top chefs have been known to bring their skills (and sporting passion) to bear, throwing down 10-hour marathon cook-offs for friends, family and anyone lucky enough to ingratiate themselves with the group. This uniquely New York experience should reach unprecedented international flavor come June..

Pregame Plan: Connected via covered walkway, this 3-million-square-foot complex offers legitimate dining at Marcus Samuelsson's Marcus Live and 100+ taps at Yard House. The DreamWorks Water Park and Nickelodeon Universe might seem incongruous with World Cup preparation, but where else can you ride a roller coaster with your kids 3 hours before the Final?.

Fan Fest: The official Fan Fest at Liberty State Park is preparing to host 45,000 rabid fans each day, with massive screens showing every match and backdropped by views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and Manhattan skyline, making it possibly the most iconic backdrop of any World Cup fan zone. Located in nearby Jersey City (a 20-minute drive from the stadium without traffic), this will be an essential destination to complete your World Cup experience..

WHAT TO EAT AND DRINK

Inside MetLife, Delaware North's culinary program celebrates local identity. Nonna Fusco's Kitchen is known for the meatball subs but more recently branched out to include Chicken Vodka Parm sandwich smothered in vodka sauce, melted provolone and basil pesto, all piled on a semolina hero roll. The Jersey SuPremio puts Taylor Ham (a local pork roll) atop Premio sausage, because sometimes more is more. Mr. Tot loads tater tots with brisket chili and beer cheese at Portable GW11. But here's the kicker: in a stadium where suites serve Rack of Lamb with harissa couscous, everyday fans can occasionally still find some seriously affordable brews. Look for designated stands in the corners of each of the three concourse levels to take advantage, but beware that they may change the program come World Cup time.

TRAVEL TIPS

  • Public Transportation: For the 2026 World Cup, New Jersey is investing $35 million in transit improvements to handle 20,000 fans per hour post-match, but even with this enhanced "load and go" capacity, the better move is still probably to cross the pedestrian bridge to American Dream and grab a beer while the crowds thin.
  • Parking: 28,000 spaces across color-coded lots open 5 hours early for tailgating. The insider move: American Dream typically offers $5 validated parking with any attraction ticket purchase, perfect if you plan to enjoy the complex before walking to the match.
  • Rideshare Reality: Uber/Lyft pickup in Lot E works but prepare for surge pricing and waits of up to 30 minutes or longer. Walking 15 minutes to American Dream for pickup should save some time and money. Plus, there’s the aforementioned beer we recommended grabbing.

FUN FACTS

Soccertown USA: The World Cup Final is coming home to where American soccer was born. Just 5 miles away, Kearny, New Jersey has produced more US National Team players per capita than seems fair. Tab Ramos, Tony Meola and John Harkes all learned the game on fields where Scottish immigrants established America's first soccer leagues in the 1870s.

An Ironbound Pilgrimage: Newark's Portuguese district, 15 minutes from MetLife, offers authentic soccer culture on Ferry Street. Iberia Restaurant, Seabra's Marisqueira, and dozens of cafés and bars create Little Lisbon in New Jersey. During Portugal or Brazil matches, the street can become an outdoor festival that makes you forget you're in America..
